KBR Construction Receives Top Award from Associated Builders and Contractors
Wire Release
HOUSTON – (April 30, 2019) – KBR, Inc. (NYSE: KBR) announced today that it has earned a National Excellence in Construction® Eagle Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in the category of Heavy Industrial/Mega Projects for its work on the Koch Enid Expansion Project (KEEP) in Oklahoma.
KBR provided EPC services to Koch Ag and Energy Solutions, LLC, for a three-year, $1.3 billion expansion of Koch's fertilizer plant on a 650-acre site, delivering six major scopes of work on time and on budget, and managing almost 8 million man hours through a collaborative team approach. One of the largest fertilizer production plants in North America, the expansion increased the plant's urea and ammonia production capacity by more than one million tons per year. It was one of the largest capital construction projects in Oklahoma history.
KBR was recognized at the national ABC convention along with other winners in various categories at the Excellence in Construction Awards gala in Long Beach, California. Accepting for KBR were Michael Day, Vice President of KBR Construction Americas, and Paris Gill, Director of Human Resources for Construction.
"We are proud to honor KBR with a National Excellence in Construction® Eagle Award," said 2019 ABC National Chair Tony Rader, telecom vice president of National Roofing Partners, Coppell, Texas. "The Koch fertilizer plant expansion shows not only the exceptional talent in our industry, but the overall commitment to building safely, on time and on budget. KBR's breadth of skills and craftsmanship greatly benefits the merit shop construction industry."
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry's leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
The Eagle Award is the highest Construction recognition granted by ABC. To earn that honor requires that projects demonstrate exceptional performance in safety, quality, and productivity, as well as innovations in construction execution. KBR implemented advancements on the KEEP project that were key differentiators, including programs in Quality Control (weld quality), scheduling and sequencing, craft training, critical lifts, and systems turnover.
During the award process, Koch lauded the partnership among the integrated project team, the standard for craftsmanship and professionalism shown by KBR, and the overall impact the project had on the larger community of Enid.
"We are extremely proud to receive this recognition from ABC," said Farhan Mujib, KBR President, Hydrocarbons -Delivery Solutions. "This project is a true testament to the power of a positive work culture built on mutual trust and a relentless commitment to safety and quality."
Considered a world leader in ammonia technology, KBR has been involved in the licensing, design, engineering and/or construction of more than 230 ammonia plants worldwide.
