KBR’s Aspire Defence Capital Works Receives Exceptional Scores for CCS
The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is a non-profit, independent organisation founded by the construction industry with the aim of improving its image and reputation. The CCS is a voluntary scheme launched in June 1997 and has over 100,000 projects registered with the programme.
The CCS audits at Aspire Defence Capital Works (ADCW) recently achieved exceptional scores for the month of December. This achievement by projects Larkhill, Tidworth, Bulford and Perham Down demonstrate consistent good practice across key areas at one of the busiest stages of Aspire Defence's build program.
There are five key areas the CCS focuses on: Appearance, Community, Environment, Health & Safety and the Workforce. The December 2018 audits scored 9/10 in all five areas at each of the project sites and now all four projects have received certificates of excellence.
KBR has a long and proud history of working with the public sector and government entities in the United Kingdom. Today KBR continues to provide services in support of the MOD's Army Basing Programme (ABP) within the Project Allenby-Connaught footprint.
ADCW is committed to supporting community projects which have helped achieve excellent CCS scores for this category. To date, ADCW has worked with local organisations including the Basingstoke Canal Authority, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Trussell Trust food banks, the Vine Centre and St. John's Care Trust. The CCS Team recently commented in ADCW's monitoring report stating, "The degree of community interaction has been exceptionally good and the contractor continues to seek opportunities to engage with neighbours and those affected by the works wherever possible."
Gayathiri Shankar has played a huge part in the success of the CCS audits for ADCW. Since the start of the ABP, Gayathiri Shankar has been delivering DREAM assessments which help Aspire Defence address environmental impacts and issues in a positive way.
Gayathiri is reaching the final stages of her PhD thesis on integrating sustainable building development with aspects of landscape. In February, resulting from these achievements at work and at home, Gayathiri was interviewed by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and became a 'fellow' of the Institute. IEMA is a key institute for environmental and sustainability professionals, and Gayathiri agrees much of her achievement has been because of her role at ADCW.
On Friday, April 12th, the project sites won four silver awards at the prestigious 2019 CCS national site awards ceremony in London. This achievement recognizes fantastic work by everyone in our teams at Bulford, Larkhill, Perham Down and Tidworth. The national awards are presented only to top performing sites and recognize exceptional levels of consideration against the Scheme's Code of Considerate Practice. All sites achieved exceptional CCS scores (45/50) during 2018 and also a remarkable level of consistency which is reflected by their overall performance improvement compared to last year's national awards.
