The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is where energy professionals meet to exchange ideas and opinions to advance scientific and technical knowledge for offshore resources and environmental matters. Celebrating 50 years since 1969, OTC’s flagship conference is held annually at NRG Park (formerly Reliant Park) in Houston. OTC has expanded technically and globally with the Arctic Technology Conference, OTC Brazil and OTC Asia. OTC is sponsored by 13 industry organizations and societies, who work cooperatively to develop the technical program. OTC also has endorsing and supporting organizations.

Building on prior successful panel sessions in 2017 and 2018, which set the stage of the world of big data and its potential to revolutionize the offshore industry, OTC 2019 will showcase specific solutions for value add from digital technologies. Thus, this year’s theme is “Big Data Successful Applications of Digital Transformation and Future Advances.” Digital data collected by the energy industry supports many, if not, all of its activities. Data integrity, security, mining, analysis and transfer are critical to the industry to gleam valuable insights and knowledge. This aspiration has accelerated the acceptance of big data, analytics and its digital technologies leading to “digital transformation”, but success stories have been limited. Hence, this year’s panel will be the culmination of an effort, which started in 2015, aimed at promoting a cohesive approach to digital transformation within our industry. This years’ goal is to demonstrate the industry’s acceptance of digital transformation, strong evidence of insights and knowledge gained, specific value-add realized, and future trends. The benefits and experiences accumulated in other industries, and highly flaunted, can be equally exhibited in the energy industry. It is now time to highlight these accomplishments from both an industry and academic perspective.
