The Legend Continues: Brown & Root Industrial Services Update
The re-emergence of the Brown & Root brand created a wave of excitement in the industrial marketplace and continues to make headlines throughout the Gulf Coast. In its first six months of operations, Brown & Root Industrial Services has acquired new clients, executed new projects, grown service offering, and strengthened existing relationships and accounts.
Highlights of the last few months include:The Brown & Root Industrial Services maintenance team has experienced early and aggressive growth resulting in long-term maintenance contracts at ten new locations, and the addition of roughly 1,400 employees in six states and Mexico.The Brown & Root Industrial Services construction division recently completed a 220-acre site clearing project for a methanol facility in Lake Charles, and are positioned well for awards of future phases of this project. Construction opportunities are being pursued for two upcoming plant expansions at Westlake Chemicals in Geismar, LA. The Brown & Root Industrial Services is also supporting KBR on several major EPC projects with site development, construction and engineering.The engineering arm of the firm, Wink Engineering, continues to grow its base workload in project engineering for refineries, chemical, and petro-chemical plants; as well as increasing the company's presence in the midstream oil & gas, terminal, and logistics industries. In addition to the Brown & Root Industrial Services offices in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, there are engineering offices in West Monroe, LA; Tulsa, OK; and a recently opened office in Mobile, AL. The Mobile office will be the headquarters for Ports Engineering and Marine Survey as well as the basis for Brown & Root Industrial Service's expansion into the Eastern Gulf Coast.2016 is off to a strong start for on-call construction (OCC), which includes the startup of new contracts at the University of Central Oklahoma and NJPA Georgia. There are many opportunities for growth in new geographic areas and markets - particularly in healthcare and higher education, and strong bidding activity has the team awaiting client decisions on a number of pending proposals throughout the U.S.In December 2015, Brown & Root Industrial Services completed the acquisition of Petrin Corporation, a firm which specializes in insulation, painting, and other specialty services; and its subsidiary, Scaffold Rental & Erection Services (SRES). Through this acquisition, the company gained a major presence in several target client locations. Brown & Root's Industrial Services' Industrial Specialty Services group is now the supplier of choice for KBR's scaffolding, painting, and insulation needs on construction and EPC projects.
In addition to the highlights listed, Brown & Root Industrial Services also provide comprehensive land survey services and high-definition, 3-D laser scanning. Offering specialty capabilities such as these to the existing service offerings, marks a major step towards the goal of making the company a comprehensive, single-source service provider to industrial plants.
