KBR Hits the Slopes with the UK Royal Air Force
KBR has proudly reinforced their ongoing commitment to the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) by once again supporting the service’s biggest sporting event of the year.
The RAF Alpine Championships, held in early January, saw over 800 skiers, boarders, sponsors and ski fans alike come together in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria to compete across multiple disciplines. Competitors battled to earn a spot in the teams that will compete in the upcoming Inter-Services Championships against the Army and Royal Navy in France later this month.
As one of the lead sponsors since 2014, KBR supported competitors from start to finish. Government Solutions (GS) EMEA Graduates Fiona Galbraith and Adam Wimbledon, who lived with the teams throughout the event, were put to task supporting their training, kit preparation and more. It wasn’t all work and no play though, with the opportunity to have lessons from RAF instructors and even compete in a special sponsors race.
“I learned so much and met so many amazing people,” said Galbraith. “Before I came out to Austria, I didn’t fully appreciate the importance of sport in the RAF, but it is an amazing way to bring everyone together, no matter what your ability, and it reiterates the importance of support and companionship – both of which are essential for such a challenging job.”
In the second week, the KBR-sponsored slalom was a closely fought contest, in both the women’s and men’s events, and a demonstration that pushing limits and finishing can lead to surprises. KBR’s Dougal Monk, Senior Director of Business Development for GS EMEA, was on hand to present the unique, antique ski trophies to the winners.
Speaking on the importance of supporting these events, Monk said, “KBR is proud of our long- established and ever-developing relationship with the RAF and all of the UK Armed Forces. At all levels, the championships are about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to see what you can achieve. It’s great that, as sponsors, we get to experience that, too. This event is a unique way to reinforce our support, as well as meet some truly inspiring individuals.”
KBR’s recent signing of the “Women in Defence Charter,” on-going sponsorship of the “Women in Defence UK Awards” and it’s Gold Status recognition for the “UK Armed Forces Covenant” are testaments to our unwavering commitment to supporting UK military services.
