Last year KBR, in a joint venture with Kvaerner, signed a contract with Statoil for the complete delivery of platform topsides to the Johan Sverdrup development, an oil field in the North Sea. Just ten months after signing the contract to deliver the deck for the utility and living quarter (ULQ) platform, the team celebrated a key milestone with the on time start of fabrication. This milestone involved simultaneous commencement of steel and aluminium cutting at four fabrication yards in Poland.

KBR, supported by Kvaerner, immediately started work on detailed engineering, design and procurement of equipment for the utility module upon signing the contract with Statoil. The effort was led by the KBR team in the U.K. and supported by KBR's Jakarta office. The accommodation module will be constructed at Apply Leirvik's yard in Stord, Norway, where the KBR joint venture also manages the major EPC subcontractor with Apply. The topside modules will be assembled at Kvaerner Stord and ready for sail away and installation in the first quarter of 2019. Once installed, the platform will be bridge linked to the processing platform which in turn sits alongside the drilling and riser platforms.
  
The ULQ Topside will accommodate up to 560 personnel working at the Johan Sverdrup field making it the largest offshore living quarters ever constructed. The platform will also provide the facilities to support all field production control and monitoring activities, a significant element of the site. The platform is located on the Utsira Height in the North Sea, 95 miles off Stavanger, Norway.

Johan Sverdrup is one of the five biggest oil fields in the Norwegian North Sea, and is the largest discovery in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea in recent years with the potential recovery of 1.7 - 3.0 billion barrels of oil. Oil from the field will be piped to the Mongstad terminal in Hordland in Norway.
